7th Dronfield Scouts
Summer Camp 2018
Walesby 2018 - World Jamboree
Scouts this year spent a week at Walesby Forest near Newark at the World Jamboree. The week's theme was a year in a week. So we had Christmas, New Year and Halloween all in one week in blazing sunshine. Scouts were able to undertake 36 separate activities including canoeing, climbing, crafting, laser tag and mini tanks. Each evening there was a band, music and other themed activities including a fun fair. Usual no sleep, losing kit and washing up !
Special Guest - Poppet
Scouts were visited today by a very special guest - Poppet the Trainee Guide Dog. Poppet is only 12 months old but has already embarked on an intense training program to get him ready in 12 months time to be a Guide Dog.
Facts we learned about Guide Dogs:
1. They cost £58,000 with there lifetime in training, vets and food costs
2. There are no Rotweiller Guide Dogs
3. At the Blind Foundation Guide Dog centre, they mainly breed Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, and purpose-bred first crosses. Known for their intelligence and steady, friendly nature, these breeds make excellent guide dogs
4. They can work for up to 9 years before the guide dog retires.

Gold Sucess - County Presentation
Nine Scouts from 7th have recently been award the highest award in Scouting - the Cheif Scout Gold Award. The awards celebration took part at the Winding Wheel in Chesterfield with other Scouts from the County. 7th's success wasn't just at troop level but we also had the highest numbers of awards to a single troop in the Derbyshire County. To complete the challenge Scouts have to undertake various tasks including an expedition, sporting awards, personnel and teamwork development.
Antarctic Badge Challenge 2018
Scouts completed 4 tasks set as part of the Antarctic Challenge badge. This included undertaking presentation on Antarctic animals, looking at ration packs and putting tents up in difficult conditions - dark and with thick gloves on. They really enjoyed it especially trying to mimic penguins.

Rampage
7th took part in the annual Rampage competition held at Drum Hill. Sophie, Dylan, Jacob and Sam competed in 8 events against 23 other Derbyshire Scout Troops. We did very well in the Climbing event, obtaining full marks, Fire lighting and the mental challenges.
Big Well Done to you all ....
7th Dronfield Scouts have gone digital
7th Dronfield Scouts have gone digital but moving Troop admin on to Online Scout Manager. After much inputting and a successful test last night we now can manage badge records and keep a track of stock more effectively. This will reduce time in Troop administrating and help us focus on "Scouting".
Climbing - Lakeland
After the rain, outdoor climbing didn't sound so appealing so headed in doors to the Lakeland centre. In the chamber - lots of puzzles to do. Scouts are also undertaking Archery and prepping leaders tea tonight. We also have our bond mocktail night to look forward too - 007 !
Rain doesn't stop play
Sent from my iPhoneAfter a heavy morning rain and a few tents casualties we headed off to the sports centre for a footie match and a quick swim.
Lots of kit to dry when we get back !
Fog and Fuss
Beware pending tent inspection.
Scouts went gorge walking and Explorers enjoyed sweeping views up Harter Fell.
Weather has been kind but that's set to change - batten down the hatches tonight after Chocolate Cake, of course.
Canoeing Day
Windermere - Canoeing
Sessions - 2 across the lake and 3 around the islands. Opportunity to swim and chill out in between. Everyone got wet so they have had one wash at least. Lots of wet kit to sort out later but that's just camp !
Big thanks to Chris, Lucia and Kev 😊
We have arrived !
Arrived - camp up before it rained. Had stir fry for tea - pudding to follow. Canoeing planned and hopefully will see some sun !
